In the past couple of weeks, I made some cookies:
I also made mince pies and did all the Christmassy things you do when you have two kids who are still REALLY EXCITED about Santa Claus.
I did not do nearly as much writing as I’d had planned, but I did read a book about Revision and Self-Editing which sparked some more ideas for my work in progress. I also looked at my goals for the coming year, and what I’ve done this year so far (I still have a few days to go).
For reference, here’s a link to last year’s Goal Post: http://ameliasmith.net/2015/01/goals-for-2015-and-2014-progress-report/
I met, or came close to meeting, most of my hours-put-in goals. I only published one more book, though, because I decided to try to do the next three books in close succession. Here’s the run down:
Goals for 2015
Log 900+ writing hours (832, as of 28 December), 500 of those on the aforementioned fantasy series (492, as of 28 December).
Publish 2-3 more books. Only one more, but two are beta-reader-ready.
Publish some more articles. I only published 16 articles this year. Looking to do more in the coming year, I think.
Blog at least once a month. Done. I blogged more than ever this year, experimenting with a couple of different things. The only really big success was my time-wasting analysis of the Author Earnings survey.
Keep getting out for walks, and get enough sleep. Stay healthy. I did pretty well, and my back seems to be in better shape than it was a year ago.
Work through my TBR pile and read a few more “serious” books (prize winners, classics, etc.). I found myself reading a lot of light, recent books despite this resolution, though I did get in a few more hefty ones.
Goals for 2016
My #1 goal for the coming year is to complete and publish the rest of the Anamat series. I’m hoping to get it all wrapped up by early in the summer, but I have a lot to do and am willing to push my self-imposed deadline back if needed.
Once that’s done (or even before it’s done) I plan to experiment with some other ways of making money, which might include writing more articles, writing more Regency romances, or getting a totally non-intellectual summer job. I’ll blog occasionally and keep up with my quarterly newsletter. I’m thinking about doing a bit of cover re-design, and the website is due for an update, but all of that is secondary to Goal #1.
